Frequently Asked Questions

Is Facts Disc a one-off purchase or a subscription?

Facts Disc is a one-off purchase, with no monthly or annual subscription or recurring fees. One Facts Disc stays with your vehicle for life, and you can continue adding to and updating its story throughout your ownership.

Can I update my Facts Disc after I’ve created it?

Absolutely. When you purchase a Facts Disc, your Facts Disc account is created automatically. This becomes your personal portal where you can access, personalise and manage your vehicle’s Facts Disc whenever you like.

Your digital Facts Disc is available to you immediately after purchase, so you can start building your vehicle’s story straight away — there’s no need to wait for the physical disc to arrive.

Your story is never fixed or “finished”. You can return to your account at any time to add new photographs, restoration work, adventures, awards, modifications, ownership information or anything else you’d like to preserve as your vehicle’s story develops.

Buy it once, then continue building and updating your vehicle’s story for as long as you own it.

Is Facts Disc only for classic cars?

Not at all. While Facts Disc was born from a love of classic and interesting vehicles, the concept can be used wherever there’s a story worth preserving and sharing.

From classic and modern cars, motorcycles, military vehicles and aviation to museum exhibits, collections and other historically significant objects, Facts Disc provides a simple way to bring their history, provenance, photographs and stories to life.

If it has a story to tell, there’s a good chance Facts Disc can help tell it.

For clubs, museums, collections, organisations or more unusual applications, we can also discuss bespoke options to suit your requirements and desired look. Take a look at our Partnerships section below or get in touch to discuss your idea.

Can I use Facts Disc for a restoration project?

Absolutely — restoration is one of the best uses for Facts Disc. Photographs and notes can be added throughout the project to document the work as it happens, from original components and hidden areas to repairs, fabrication, modifications and those all-important stages that may never be visible again once the vehicle is complete.

Facts Disc has also been used by the Heritage Skills Academy at Bicester Heritage, where it provided a simple way to record the progress of vehicles being worked on by apprentices and document the work undertaken by individual students.

We believe Facts Disc can be an invaluable addition to a professional classic vehicle restoration. As information and photographs are added, Facts Disc automatically records and displays them in chronological order, creating a clear timeline of the restoration and making it easy to follow the progression of work from start to finish. A specialist garage or restorer can therefore build a detailed record throughout the project, professionally documenting the work carried out and creating a lasting account of the vehicle’s restoration.

Once the work is complete, the Facts Disc can be handed over with the vehicle — giving the owner not only their restored car, but a documented record of the work, photographs and expertise that went into it. That record can then remain with the vehicle as part of its ongoing history and provenance.

If you’re a restoration specialist, garage or workshop and would like to explore using Facts Disc as part of your restoration service, please get in touch — we’d be delighted to discuss it with you.

How much information can I add — and what kind?

As much or as little as you like. Every Facts Disc can grow into a detailed, ongoing record of your vehicle, but you remain completely in control of what you choose to include.

When someone scans your Facts Disc, they’ll be presented with a series of simple buttons based on the information you’ve chosen to add and what is relevant to your vehicle. For most owners, the heart of their Facts Disc is the History section, where photographs and accompanying stories can be added to document the vehicle’s life, restoration, previous ownership, modifications, awards, adventures and memorable moments.

But your Facts Disc can do much more. Depending on how you use your vehicle, you can also show that your vehicle is available for hire, including weddings, events or film and television work, with your hire information and pricing. Add an external link to detailed vehicle specifications or further information. Link directly to your vehicle’s YouTube channel or videos. Add a For Sale section, including your sales description and asking price. Link to your car club, owners’ club or association. Connect visitors to your vehicle’s social media page.

You don’t need to use everything. The relevant buttons appear according to the information you choose to add, allowing you to keep your Facts Disc as simple as you want or build it into a much more comprehensive home for your vehicle’s story.

And because you can continue adding and updating information over time, your Facts Disc can evolve alongside the vehicle rather than remaining a snapshot of one moment in its history.

Can anyone see my personal information?

No personal information is automatically published on your Facts Disc. Every Facts Disc starts as a blank canvas, and you are in complete control of what you choose to upload and share as part of your vehicle’s story.

If you decide to include documents such as invoices, certificates, receipts or historical paperwork, it is your choice what is shown. We always recommend checking anything you upload and removing or obscuring personal or sensitive information that you would not want others to see.

Your Facts Disc is there to tell your vehicle’s story — you decide what becomes part of that story and what remains private.

What happens if I sell my vehicle?

The choice is yours. If your Facts Disc has become a collection of personal memories and family stories, you may choose to keep it as a treasured heirloom.

Alternatively, it can be transferred to the vehicle’s new owner. A detailed record of restoration work, photographs, modifications, ownership and history can become an invaluable part of a vehicle’s provenance — and being able to pass that record on intact means the story stays with the car rather than being lost when ownership changes.

The new owner can then continue adding to the Facts Disc, creating an evolving record that follows the vehicle from one custodian to the next. In some cases, that documented history can be priceless.

All the new owner needs to do is create a free Facts Disc account to receive the transfer — there is no additional purchase required.

Is the Facts Disc designed for long-term use on a vehicle windscreen?

Yes. Facts Disc has been designed specifically for vehicle use. The disc itself is printed on waterproof material and sits securely inside a clear plastic holder, which attaches to the inside of your windscreen. The holder uses a low-tack fixing rather than a permanent adhesive, allowing it to be removed without leaving marks or adhesive residue on the glass.

As with any product exposed to sunlight, heat and changing temperatures over a long period of time, we can’t guarantee that there will never be some natural ageing or fading. However, your Facts Disc is protected inside its holder and designed for normal vehicle use, so it should remain looking great for years to come.

Do I need to be good with technology?

Not at all. In fact, keeping things simple has always been at the heart of Facts Disc. Our ethos is that the technology should never get in the way of the story.

Documenting a vehicle can be a big enough task in itself. There may be decades of history, photographs, restoration work, technical information, previous owners, adventures and personal memories you want to capture — so we’ve deliberately made Facts Disc as straightforward and easy to manage as possible.

Simply upload a photograph, add the story or information behind it, and save. You can start with just a few entries and build your vehicle’s story gradually over time. Facts Disc takes care of organising your entries chronologically, leaving you to concentrate on the part that really matters — preserving the story.

Do I need an app or an account to view someone’s Facts Disc?

No. There’s no app to download and no account is needed to view a Facts Disc. Simply scan the QR code — on most modern smartphones this can be done directly through the phone’s camera — and the vehicle’s Facts Disc will open in your web browser.

Only the Facts Disc owner has an account, which allows them to create, manage and continually update their vehicle’s story. This is set up automatically when you purchase your Facts Disc, so there’s no separate registration process to worry about.

Will I still be able to scan a Facts Disc at a show if there’s no internet signal?

Facts Disc is web-based, so you’ll need a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection to view the vehicle’s story — just as you would when opening any other web link. The QR code itself can still be scanned, but the content will need an internet connection to load. At venues with a weak signal, it may simply take a little longer to appear.

Can I share my vehicle’s Facts Disc without someone physically scanning the disc?

Yes. Every Facts Disc has its own unique web link, which you can save and share directly with friends, family, fellow enthusiasts, club members or potential buyers. You can even include the link when advertising your vehicle for sale, giving prospective buyers instant access to its documented history and provenance.

A favourite trick of Facts Disc creator Paul Tombs is to save the link to his own Facts Disc as a contact on his phone. That way, his vehicle’s story is always on hand and ready to share whenever the conversation turns to cars — as it often does!

What happens to my Facts Disc and its content if Facts Disc ever stops operating?

We understand that when you build your Facts Disc, you’re entrusting us with something far more important than just data. Photographs, restoration records, provenance, personal stories and memories can be incredibly valuable — both historically and sentimentally. As fellow motoring enthusiasts, it’s a question we would ask ourselves too.

In the highly unlikely event that Facts Disc were to cease operating, we would give our customers advance notice and provide a way for them to retrieve their vehicle’s content and photographs before the service closes. We would never want the history you’ve taken the time to preserve to simply disappear.

Your physical Facts Disc would, of course, remain yours.

Do you offer discounts for car, bike or other motoring clubs and associations?

Yes. We work with car, motorcycle and aviation clubs, vehicle associations and other organisations across the motoring world to offer exclusive Facts Disc discounts to their members.

We’re always keen to grow that network and work with organisations that share our passion for preserving the stories, history and provenance behind the vehicles we love.

If you represent a club, association or motoring organisation and would like to offer Facts Disc as a member benefit, please get in touch — we’d love to hear from you.

Can Facts Disc create bespoke discs for my club, organisation or event?

Absolutely. We can create bespoke Facts Discs for car and motorcycle clubs, motoring organisations, events and special projects, tailored to complement your branding, vehicles or occasion.

We’ve previously worked with the RAC to produce bespoke Facts Discs for its historic vehicles taking part in the renowned RM Sotheby’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, as well as for the St James’s Motoring Spectacle in the lead-up to the event.

From club-branded discs and special editions to individual event collaborations, we’re always open to an interesting idea. You can see examples of our bespoke work amongst our Facts Disc products, or get in touch to tell us what you have in mind.

Do you collaborate with motoring events, publications and media?

Yes. At Facts Disc, we are always interested in opportunities that help us share great vehicle stories and reach fellow motoring enthusiasts.

We’ve supported and collaborated with established names across the motoring world, including CarFest and Footman James, and continue to work with car clubs, publications, events and other organisations on editorial features, competitions, event activity and promotional opportunities.

If you’re an event organiser, editor, journalist, content creator or represent a motoring organisation and think there’s a natural opportunity to work together, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
