February is all about "May"

February’s Car Facts Disc “Vehicle of the Month” features the remarkable story of ‘May’. She is a delightful 1934 Jowett Curlew and, currently, the oldest Jowett Curlew known on the Car Club Register.

May was taken in and lovingly restored by her owner, Dean Milward, and together (May’s back-story is told ‘in her own words’) they have added May’s story to their unique Car Facts Disc so that everyone can read all about her. Dean has also included photos to show May’s restoration, her full specification document and details about the Jowett Owners’ Club on the Car Facts Disc too.

To see the full story and find out even more about May and the Jowitt Owners Club events, you can scan the QR Code, with your Smartphone camera, now and read about her amazing make-over and her life-journey. Alternatively, keep reading to see how Dean transformed her.

1934 Jowett Curlew. (Aka May)
First registered 09/11/1934.

I am the oldest Jowett Curlew known on the Jowett car club register. I was one of only two built in 1934 and it is thought I’m a pre-production car, the main production model being release in February 1935. One of the two 1934 Curlews was displayed at the 1934 Olympia Motor show (my current owner is trying to find out if it was me). Either way I’m a bit of a rear car, and have survived with my original registration number, engine number and matching chassis number. I only have 72000 miles under my belt.

Here is Dean picking May up from her previous owner

Inside needed a lot of work to bring back some of her charm.
Dry, hard and cracked leather

Mouse under the back seat. Sorry no lodgers

Wiring also needed sorting out.
As it turned out, this car had three different wiring looms.

These also needed moving. Why would you put an indicator there?

Front wings being done - no silly Indicators

I had to make a front apron.

The seats were hard. mouse pee had dried the leather out so much,
it took about six coats to cover evenly
.............and three coats of leather die later.

Finally, a glamour shot of the old girl

There are many more images to see of the restoration and a lovely tale (told by May) of her life before Dean took her under his wing. By scanning the QR Code on Dean's Car Facts Disc, all will be revealed. Enjoy reading this lovely story and thank you Dean for using Car Facts Disc to the full.
